2nd Annual Hylebos Days, May 9th - 10th

This year the Friends will celebrate the 2nd Annual Hylebos Days as part of the City of Federal Way’s Buds and Blooms Festival on Saturday, May 9th and Sunday, May 10th.

Join the fun during the two-day celebration at West Hylebos Wetlands Park between 11:00am – 4:00pm.  Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk or a specialized tour.  See below for more details.

Saturday, May 9th

10:30am – 11:30am  Meet author and photographer, Seth Bynum.  Attend the Visions of the Hylebos presentation and book signing at the Marine Science & Technology (MaST) Center located at Redondo, next to Salty’s Restaurant.

11:00am -  4:00pm  Stroll the Hylebos; enjoy family activities and scavenger hunt suitable for all ages.

11:00am –  3:00pm  Join a specialized tour of the West Hylebos Wetlands with one of the Friends’ many experts.

Meet the Friends’ wetland and restoration expert Hillary Kleeb, Restoration Logistics’ Colin McDonald and wetland scientist Ruth Schaefer.

All tours will meet at the information table (located at the park entrance) at the designated times.  Tours will depart five minutes after posted start time (ex 11:05pm) and will last approximately one hour. Tour Times:  11:00am, 1:00pm, 3:00pm

12:00pm – 12:30pm  Dedication of new park signage by City of Federal Way Mayor Jack Dovey at the park entrance


Sunday, May 10th

11:00am -  4:00pm  Stroll the Hylebos; enjoy family activities and scavenger hunt for all

11:00am –  3:00pm  Join a specialized tour of the West Hylebos Wetlands with one of the Friends’ many experts.

Meet the Friends’ wetland and restoration expert Hillary Kleeb, Restoration Logistics’ Colin McDonald and wetland scientist Ruth Schaefer and native plant experts Bill Brookreson, and Catharine Hovhanec.

All tours will meet at the information table (located at the park entrance) at the designated times.  Tours will depart five minutes after posted start time (ex 11:05pm) and will last approximately one hour.  Tour Times:  11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:00pm, 2:00pm, 3:00pm
 
12:00pm –  1:00pm  Celebrate Mother’s Day!  Enjoy activities and refreshments!


Complimentary informational materials and refreshments will be provided both days.

Limited parking is available at the Historic Cabin parking lot.  Overflow parking can be found at the S. 348th Park and Ride.  No shuttle service will be provided between the Historic Cabin parking lot and the S. 348th Park and Ride.

Free shuttle service will be provided between designated Buds & Bloom Festival locations only.  Parking at the Pacific Rim Collection is recommended when using the free shuttle service.  Shuttle service picks up at each location every 20 minutes from 10:30am to 5:30pm.
