Ruby Dance 2009 Pre-Event

Details about Ruby Dance 2009, the Friends' fifth annual awards dinner and benefit for Hylebos conservation

Join the Friends for Ruby Dance, a celebration of the annual homecoming of Hylebos Creek salmon and the work to keep our community green!  (Dancing is for salmon only! The salmon turn ruby red as they swim up the creek to spawn.)

Several hundred friends of the Friends will gather September 26, 2009 at the Weyerhaeuser-King County Aquatic Center to enjoy fine food catered by Cafe Pacific. The evening will begin at 5:30 with complimentary sparkling wine and hors d'oeuvres while guests bid on a selection of fantastic Hylebos Silent Auction items. The evening will be capped with a live auction of blockbuster items, including a wine and cheese party for 20 hosted at the winner's home by Dash Point Metropolitan Market, and a selection of experiences you won’t want to miss, from weekend outings to vacation packages!

Sean MacLean of KING-FM will once again be our master of ceremonies. Cascade Land Conservancy President Gene Duvernoy will make the keynote remarks on urban forests.

Are Forests Just A Memory?

Two hundred years ago, the Puget Sound Region was covered in primeval forest. Today, more than half the forest is gone in urban Puget Sound and more than 10,000 acres of forest are lost each year.

In urban area communities like our own, remaining forests are threatened by habitat loss, invasive plants and disease. Our fifth annual Ruby Dance focuses on the future of our urban forests and what we can do together to keep our forests green and healthy.
