Habitat Restoration
Description of Stream Team Habitat Restoration volunteer opportunities
Each year the Friends of the Hylebos implements numerous habitat restoration projects in the Hylebos Creek Watershed. Stream Team Volunteers are invited to special volunteer work days to contribute to site restoration.
Restoration work typically includes planting native vegetation or removing invasive weeds such as blackberry and reed canary grass. In some cases, volunteers can work on special projects, including installing instream habitat structures.
Volunteers get the satisfaction of knowing they've made their local watershed a healthier place to live. And because our projects are part of the 745-acre Hylebos Creek Conservation Initiative, work that our volunteers is leveraged by thousands of other volunteers working on sites across the watershed.
We always encourage Stream Team'ers to return to their work site to see how their project grows!
Volunteer work days usually last 4-6 hours. The Friends provides water and coffee, breakfast snacks (bagels, pastries), and lunch. Please bring your own water bottle, if you can. It reduces our reliance on plastic water bottles!
Projects are held in all weather conditions and volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for the weather. Tools and gloves will be supplied.
If you have a large group interested in restoration, we may be able to arrange a special Hylebos volunteer day for your group. Contact Hillary Kleeb for more information.
