North Fork Hylebos Revegetation

Description of the revegetation project at the North Fork Spring Valley Open Space

The 40-acre Spring Valley Open Space parcel surrounds the upper reach of the North Fork of Hylebos Creek. The forest here has been disturbed by flooding and invasive plants - primarily bitter nightshade, Himalayan blackberry and reed canary grass - have begun to establish themselves in the heart of the forest.

Beginning in 2006, the Friends have been working to remove nightshade and blackberry and replant the site with native plants. We are currently assessing the site to determine whether a large-scale stream channel restoration and revegetation project is needed.
