Hardhack or Steeplebush
Spiraea douglasii
This summertime beauty can reach a height of six feet. This tall, erect, many branched bush has finely toothed leaves that are oblong to oval. The bright pink flower clusters grow in the form of a steeple giving it one of its common names.
Hardhack is commonly found in fens, swamps, moist meadows and by streams and lakes. This species often forms thickets known as spiraea swamps.
